Nicole Richie Has a Fender Bender with Balenciaga

October 6th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Handbags

Oops! Those pesky paps following Nicole Richie caused her to have a car accident. Luckily, Nicole had Benji Madden and her trusty blue Balenciaga handbag by her side, and the accident wasn’t serious. The purse’s bright blue hue is a great contrast to her gray sweater…and maybe it will cheer …

Christian Dior Karenina Tote Bag | Large Black Framed Ruched Lambskin Handbag

October 6th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Fashion, Handbags

The Lady Dior line may grab all the headlines, but for something a little different I’d opt for this Karenina Tote.

The lush aged lambskin falls in intricate pleats down the length of the bag. The leather is lovely, but that super-ruched appearance is sure to divide fashion fans. I suppose no one gets noticed without taking risks, right? At least Christian Dior keeps the branding to a minimum, with “CD” letter charms providing the only bit of bling. They still make the bag look a little cluttered for my tastes, so thankfully they’re removable.

The head-turning design combines with the large interior to create a bag ready to transition from day to night. If only all that space was utilized. There’s a large zippered envelope in the center, but I worry about the security of the open compartments either side. There are slip pockets for gadgets but, without clasps or closures to keep them safe, would you trust them with your cell? The natural impulse is to stuff everything inside the zippered pouch, which is a great shame. There’s no point offering extra storage space if no one feels comfortable using it.

The handles are another practical drawback. Those short, rolled handles are very cute, but their appeal is sure to wear off when you’ve been lugging a full Karenina around the city for hours. A longer shoulder strap may have undermined the looks, but I’d be willing to sacrifice that style for comfort.

This framed tote has already become a favourite with style pioneers like Christina Aguilera, Denise Richards, and Sienna Miller. And at $2,450, they might be the only ones that can afford it!

More Features of This Christian Dior Ruched Tote Bag

  • Silver-toned hardware
  • Protective feet on the base
  • Dual top handles with a 3.5 inch drop
  • Measures 14.5 x 13 x 7 inches
  • Made in Italy
  • Also available in ruby

Aldo Creates Limited-Edition Tote Bags for Aldo Fights Aids Initiative with YouthAIDS

October 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Fashion, Handbags

Budget-conscious brand Aldo has been working with YouthAIDS for the past several years for an education initiative which aims to educate young people from becoming infected. That close partnership is continuing with a new project.

The inititiave, called Aldo Fights Aids, has released a trio of limited edition reusable tote bags for their 2009 campaign. The bags were designed by the Aldo team and “inspired by the notion of unity and the desire to help.” The drawings on the totes were created to relate to the three chapters of Vivian Ralickas’ short story Our Last Adventure: In Memory of Martha. The chapters and the totes are named “Getting Lost,” “In the City,” and “Jukebox.”

These three bags each have a price tag of $10 and are for sale on Aldo’s website and in stores. All of the proceeds from the sales will go to YouthAIDS.

“For every tote bag sold, ALDO and YouthAIDS will be able to provide one young person with the information and tools they need to protect themselves from HIV for up to six months,” said YouthAIDS Founder Kate Roberts.

New Fashion Label Lena Erziak Creates Affordable Handcrafted Exotic Purses

October 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Fashion, Handbags

Sister act Leona and Hasna Erziak are generating some major buzz with their Lena Erziak handbags. The purses have already found their way into the pages of Lucky, Life and Style, and People magazines.

The secret to the label’s rapid rise is an old fashioned formula of handcrafted Italian accessories made from high quality materials. Lena Erziak bags are available in python, ostrich, buffalo, lambskin, and traditional leather.

Of course, those exotic skins never come cheaply, but Lena Erziak bags are surprisingly affordable. Purses from the summer 2010 collection start at $455 for the elegant Jepetto evening bag, and range up to $1115 for this large Alessandro tote bag in python. That’s not exactly chump change, but it seems a steal for a handcrafted exotic purse.

Of course, there’s always a catch. Right now Lena Erziak bags are only available at Stella Filante at 156 Ludlow Street, New York City. Next time you’re in the Big Apple it might be worth bypassing the big name designer handbags on Madison Avenue for these lesser known beauties!

Katy Perry Is Loved Up with Chanel…and Russell Brand?

October 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Handbags

Sorry, girls, but it’s gonna take more than some cherry chapstick to woo Katy Perry these days. The singer is reportedly loved up wih British comedian/notorious man-skank Russell Brand (seen here). Personally, I’d rather spend a wild weekend with Katy’s foxy black Chanel purse, which works nicely with her black …

Name That Designer Purse: Britney Spears

October 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Handbags

Oh, Britney. Britney, Britney, Britney. Yellow knee socks? Fugly black sneakers? Booty shorts? And a cartoon hoodie? Really? The pop tart’s latest ensemble leaves much to be desired, so let’s just move on to her purse, shall we? To be honest, I’m not a huge fan (shocker) of the brown …

Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print

Marc by Marc Jacobs HANDABGS: Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Tote
When I heard that Marc had produced a Doodle Print Tote for his Marc by Marc Jacobs line, two words immediately popped into my head: Dooney & Bourke. We all remember the Dooney & Bourke Doodle Print Collection, with its bright colors and childish-looking drawings. But when I finally saw the Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Tote in real life, I wasn’t as shocked as I thought I would be. Yes, the doodles are whimsical and childlike. However, I think what saves this tote from complete fashion disaster is that the doodles were done in simple black and white instead of every color of the rainbow. The little birds, rainbows, and bees are actually pretty cute. And the little worm is adorable! The doodles remind me of my textbooks from when I was in grade school. The teacher would have all the students bring a paper bag from home to make into a book cover. And, of course, mine would always be covered with lots and lots of drawings. I think this tote would be cute as a gym bag or even as a casual shopping tote. It is definitely something that the young and young-at-heart can both enjoy.
Marc by Marc Jacobs PURSES: Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Bag
The Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Tote is constructed of coated canvas and is available in either Black or White. It retails for $148. Find it at Shopbop.com.

Gosselin Kids are Upset, Kate Can’t Pay Her Bills

October 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Celebrity Fashion, Gossip

Given the fact that her husband Jon has drained their bank account to the tune of $230,000, Kate Gosselin says she’s unable to pay her bills.

During an interview on the “Today” show, the “Jon and Kate Plus 8” mother explained, “When you’ve left your children and their mother without the funds to pay for the roof over their head, it’s not acceptable.  I need that money to provide for them.”

She continued, “We were in the position after our sextuplets were born that we could not pay our bills. We did the show to provide a better life for them. Never did I think I’d be back in the same position.  I have a stack of bills in my purse I can’t put in the mail.”

And contrary to Jon’s reports that their kids are being harmed by the reality show, Kate stated that her children are devastated that the TLC crew has left their house.  “I told the kids over the weekend that we weren’t filming.  Times eight, there was wailing and sobbing. They love the crew, they love the interaction, they love the events. It is not harmful to them. They are angry.”
