Cannes: Kim Kardashian, Lauren Conrad Were ‘Bling Ring’ Inspirations, Says Emma Watson

Reality stars Kim Kardashian and Lauren Conrad have become Hollywood film muses.

"Harry Potter" star Emma Watson was in Cannes promoting her new film, Sophia Coppola's "The Bling Ring." The film is based on actual events surrounding a gang of kids AKA The Bling Ring, who looted the houses of young Hollywood for about $3 million in total booty in 2009-20010, including Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom.

"I watched a lot of 'Keeping up With the Kardashians' and 'The Hills,' and I tried to understand the psychology of this kind of girl as much as possible," Watson told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival.

The British actress plays a teenager who gets wrapped up in the burglarizing ring. "I didn't want her to be just a parody," the 23-year-old said.

"The accent was hard as it was a particular kind of dialect. I also thought a lot about what her parents must have been like."

The 2013 Met Gala Would Make Sid Vicious Turn In His Grave

The theme of the 2013 Met Gala was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” – and yet not one person showed up with safety pin through their lip and  ’Never Mind The Bollocks’ scribbled in marker pen across their bare chest. Congratulations Miley Cyrus, you are now completely useless. Unless there’s a secret branch of punk that [...]

Kanye West Deletes All His Tweets, Leaves One: ‘June Eighteen’

Kanye West has gotten lots of attention for wild tweets, but on Thursday he drew notice for deleting them. The rapper removed everything he's ever tweeted and left just one message: "June Eighteen."

Alright, you might say: New Kanye album June 18! But no, it's probably not that.

West's reality star ladyfriend, Kim Kardashian, announced she was pregnant with their child on Dec. 31. So it wouldn't be too big a guess to say he was giving his 9.4 million followers a due date.

Is West harnessing the power of social media to hype a baby being born? Is nothing sacred?

Probably, and hahaha, no.

June 18 is a pretty good musical birthday: It's the day Paul McCartney came into the world. It's also when your karaoke-enthusiastic humble corresondent was born. Neither could be reached for comment.

Too Many Pubes, Too Few Laughs at the MTV Movie Awards

Every year, the MTV Movie Awards are underwhelming … and, sadly, this year was no exception. Despite being hosted by the infinitely likable Rebel Wilson, the show was predictable, boring, and way too focused on gross pubic hair jokes. By this point, the world has accepted that MTV is a music channel in name only … much more interested [...]

Kim Kardashian ‘Temptation’ Reviews: Keep Your Day Job

Kim Kardashian better stick to her day job, if the reviews out of her performance in "Tyler Perry's Temptation" are on the money.

TheWrap's movie critic Alonso Duralde called her supporting turn as assistant "nasal and awful," and that was just the start. The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck said that her "monotonous line readings demonstrate that she saved her real acting talents for her sex tape."

For the record, "Temptation" over-performed for distributor Lionsgate at the box office over the weekend, bringing in $22.6 million. Whether Kardashian's presence in the film had anything to do with that is unclear, but it apparently didn't hurt the film, which itself was poorly reviewed. It has a 16 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even the more positive reviews of Kardashian weren't so good.

The New York Times' Andy Webster called her "grating and tone deaf" and found her "entertaining for all the wrong reasons." Roger Ebert said Kim was not the "worst thing in the film" but was surprised that "someone so famous for her curves could deliver her lines so flatly."

‘Temptation’ Review: Tyler Perry, Even Sudsier and More Sanctimonious

Writer-director Tyler Perry has shined up another 16-ton anvil of subtlety for "Temptation," a scold-y, finger-wagging morality tale that uses fear and shame to browbeat married women into towing the line and behaving themselves.

And really, who better to shill for the institution of marriage than 43-year-old bachelor Perry, who uses homophobia as a punch line (or symbol of evil decadence) and HIV as a cheap plot gimmick?

Besides being a cautionary tale told with all the finesse of a U.S. Army training film about the horrors of syphilis, "Temptation" qualifies as science fiction, since it takes place in two parallel universes: One is the recognizable world where adults have career and relationship issues, and the other is the Tyler Perry–verse of convenient coincidence, abrupt character shifts and pat homilies.

(It's also a place where people pursue jobs like pharmacist and therapist armed only with bachelor's degrees, but that's another issue.)

Judith (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Brice (Lance Gross) are childhood sweethearts who have left their tiny Southern hamlet to pursue their dreams in Washington, D.C.: She wants to be a marriage counselor and he has dreams of owning his own small-town drugstore. This apparently entails working ...

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ Buffed Up With 3D, Aims to Conquer Box-Office World

"G.I Joe:Retaliation" reports for box-office duty Wednesday night, after a nine-month delay. The world's most famous toy soldier and his mates will battle the evil agents of Cobra In the movie, but in the multiplexes, it will be all about 3D.

Paramount last May took the unusual step of delaying its $135 million sequel to "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," originally scheduled to be released last June 29, in order to convert it to 3D. The decision came just after another movie based on a Hasbro toy, Universal's "Battleship," tanked domestically after making more than $200 million overseas.

"We wanted to put out the very best movie we could," Paramount's head of distribution Don Harris told TheWrap Tuesday, "and it became clear to us that 3D was the way to go."

Certainly it will make the kabooms bigger and the fights scenes and panoramas more dizzying, and that should please hardcore fans raised on "G.I. Joe" toys, comic books and cartoons. But the real reason for the conversion was to cash in at the box office, particularly overseas.

The 3D allows for $3 to $4 ticket price upticks. More than 3,000 of the roughly 3,700 ...
