Chloë Sevigny’s Retro Look: Hit or Miss?

We spotted fashionista Chloë Sevigny looking retro for a lunch date Joans on Third dressed in high waisted jeans, a tucked in striped shirt, and a sweater over her shoulder. Chloe is usually the queen of vintage and retro clothing, did she hit the mark right this time too? You decide!

San Diego’s Comic-Con Creator Shel Dorf Dead at 76

Published by reelz reelz under Movies

Shel Dorf

With the San Diego Comic-Con now running like clockwork as one of the biggest gatherings for comics, movies, and any other vaguely nerdy pop-culture ephemera in the world, it’s hard to believe that it’s largely the work of one man. Shel Dorf, a comic book collector who moved from Detroit to San Diego, put together the first con back in 1970, which was attended by 300 people. The most recent SDCC, this past August, was attended by 125,000 people, with next year only promising more. It’s sad that having passed away earlier today, Dorf will no longer be able to attend.

Dorf himself stopped running the convention itself after 1984, due to complaints that it had been taken over by Hollywood and other media pursuits when originally it really was just about appreciatiating comics, their creators, and their collectors. While Dorf’s fanaticism for the medium’s fandom dropped off a bit later in his life, he is fondly remembered for the recognition he brought the art form during the long years before it reached widespread acceptance.

SDCC has posted a remembrance from R.C. Harvey, Comics Journal columnist and longtime friend of Dorf, here.

You Are Being Prescribed The Powerful Sounds Of The French Pop Band, Tahiti 80

Published by kron under Music

If I had my PhD in music, then I would say that you need a prescription for some Tahiti 80 music. Your ears look a little weak and your heart needs a little more electronic-soul. I am going to start you off on something catchy and beautiful, Tahiti 80’s most popular track ‘Heartbeat’.

Then you should start your intake of music off of Tahiti 80’s albums Wallpaper for the Soul, Fosbury and Puzzle.

Are you obsessed yet with Xavier Boyer’s voice yet? Here is a free download Tahiti 80 has provided for a song called ‘Good Boy’.

You should be ready for their fourth album, Activity Center, which comes out in the US on November 24th.

The ever-so classic sounding Tahiti 80 graced us with their pop and presence at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA last night. I was smitten over Xavier’s vocals. The show was tasteful, elegant and captivating. I had the chills and it felt really good. Did I mention already that they are French and this was really rare and awesome to see them live!

Tahiti 80 has been making powerful pop music with disco beats and dancy synths, since 1996. Are you shocked? Are you curious? You should be.

If you can handle taking a break from the also amazing French pop band Phoenix, then I strongly suggest giving your ears a taste of Tahiti 80. They have a similar appeal in sound. My head hurts from wondering so hard why Tahiti 80 never really has been a break out band in the US. Can we please all start the revolution together and devote ourselves to Tahiti 80’s breakout!?!

Oh and that prescription I gave you, does not expire. In fact, there is not really a way to overdose!

Nicole Richie Granted Temporary Restraining Order Against Photographer

Published by TheInsider under Celebrities

“The Insider” has obtained court documents in which two photographers have been temporarily ordered to stay away from Nicole Richie. Read on for details. A Los Angeles judge made the ruling on Friday, ordering Ivon Emilio Melo Miguel, 33, and Eduardo Cerri Arrivabene, 29, to stay at least 100 yards away from Richie and her two-year-old daughter Harlow, and her six-week-old son, Sparrow. In court papers obtained by “The Insider,” Richie cites an October 5 car accident, claiming the photographers “caused a car collision, damaging my vehicle and injuring me while [they] were attempting to take photographs of my family and me.” She adds, “I am fearful that this continued presence may cause yet another accident, this time with my infant children in the vehicle.” She adds that the photogs’ alleged behavior causes “severe emotional distress both to myself and my family.” A hearing is set for November 16.

Lara’s Look for Less: Fashion Queen for Halloween

Published by TheInsider under Celebrities

In today’s edition of Lara’s Look for Less, “Insider” stylist supreme Anya Sarre is showing you how to get Lara Spencer’s fabulous on-air look for only $70.99. Watch the video to get your fashion treat – and read on below to read Anya’s questions to your most pressing fashion questions. Keep those questions coming! Q: Hey Anya, I met you at Saks in NYC last week. Thanks for the tip with the suede boots, they looked great! Thanks, Robyn A: Hi Robyn, glad my tip helped. Please go to “Ask Anya” at www.TheInsider.com every day for your fashion questions — I am here to help. Rock those suede boots for winter! Q: How can I be hot in winter without getting cold? I need some advice about matching colors please. Thanks. A: Here are my three favorite color combinations for winter. Hot pink with winter white; magenta with black; and citrine with charcoal. Try rocking these colors in winter and you’ll be hot not cold! Q: Are boots or flat shoes more in for winter time? Thanks, xoxo A: Boots are the must-have in winter. Wear them with tights and a dress, or jeans and a sweater. Flats are good all year round, so take this opportunity to rock your boots. Q: How many layers is too many layers? A: Layering is the key to looking styled. The more elements you have, the more styled you look. You raise a good question because too many layers can look sloppy. Aim for three or four elements with each outfit to create your best look. Example: camisole, cardigan, belt and necklace. Q: I am in my late forties and getting remarried. What’s a good color besides gold, silver or champagne to wear? Any suggestions on what to wear (don’t want to wear a gown or wedding dress)? I’ve been looking for a skirt-suit for under $500.00. I search… A: Congrats! How exciting. Have you considered a cream skirt-suit? It would be very chic and elegant. I found two great looks for under $50! Go to (www.Chadwicks.com and www.Metrostyle.com). Otherwise, if you want a non-traditional look, go with a color that makes you happy whether it’s red, purple or baby blue? The most important thing is that you look and feel your best on your special day, not that you are in a wedding gown! Rob Zombie Pushed Connie Britton to Play Elm Street Mom

Published by Ryan Gowland under Movies

Connie BrittonConnie Britton is not known for horror movies. In fact, the Friday Night Lights actress told the NY Post that it took Rob Zombie and the casting of Jackie Early Haley to convince her to take a role in A Nightmare on Elm Street, the remake of Wes Craven’s 1984 horror movie — a movie Britton admits she’s only seen parts of.

I’ve known Rob Zombie for a long time and he’s always been telling me, “Connie, you gotta make a horror movie!” But I was still too chicken. But when I heard Jackie Earle Haley was doing Freddy, I thought that this was the time. But in retrospect, now that I’ve seen a good part of the original, it made no difference because what we do in the new one is so substantially different.

Britton is playing the mother of heroine Nancy (Rooney Mara), but isn’t sure that her role is as strong in the remake as it was in the original.

The truth is, I don’t think the role is as well represented in the movie as it could have been. My sense is that the focus won’t be on my character as much as I previously thought, but we’ll see.

We have a feeling that the focus will likely be on Freddy hunting down Nancy, but that’s just us.
