White House Correspondents’ Dinner Spoof: Steven Spielberg Follows ‘Lincoln’ With ‘Obama’ (Video)

Steven Spielberg exemplified the combined Hollywood and political forces that descended on the capital at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner with a spoof of his hit film, "Lincoln."

Titled "Obama," it stars Daniel Day-Lewis once again transformed into the main character with co-star Tracy Morgan ("30 Rock") as Joe Biden.

It was the likes of which we hadn't seen in, well, about 15 minutes before when the event launched with a "House of Cards" spoof, but it was just as unpredictable and exciting when it dropped during President Barack Obama's speech.

White House Correspondents Dinner: The Obama & O’Brien Show Draws Laughs, Highlights Gaffes (Video)

The White House Correspondent Association dinner Saturday night proved fertile ground for Hollywood stars only this time instead of a target, the stars were often the weapons in jokes wielded by President Obama, Conan O'Brien and the group's president Ed Henry.

Steven Spielberg, Kevin Spacey and fellow cast members of Netflix's House of Cards were featured in tongue in cheek videos at the dinner. And the usual news media outlets drew many barbs, put perhaps none were more pummeling then those targeted at CNN.

"I admire their commitment to cover all sides of a story in case just one of them has to be accurate," said President Obama.

O'Brien described television news as a divided landscape.

"Fox News is watched by conservatives. MSNBC by liberals. CNN is watched by the people who clean the offices at CNN. CNN's ratings are so low, that now when the logo comes up, James Earl Jones says, 'You're watching CNN? What the hell!'"

Hacked AP Tweet of Fake White House Attack Sends Stocks Skidding

A hacked, fake tweet from The Associated Press sent markets briefly sliding Tuesday before the world's oldest and largest news agency confirmed it was bogus.

The AP had two accounts, and shut down after the tweet, which falsely claimed that there had been two explosions at the White House and that President Obama was injured. The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 145 points between 1:08 p.m. EDT and 1:10 p.m. after the tweet, the Wall Street Journal reported. But it has since bounced back, well into positive territory.

The AP quickly posted a story on its website saying its main Twitter account and the AP Mobile Twitter account were attacked after phishing attempts on AP's corporate network.

The news agency also used its other Twitter accounts to spread the word of the deception.

"All, AP's mobile Twitter account has been hacked. Please do not respond to news posted by @AP_Mobile. The account will be suspended soon," @AP_Politics tweeted.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said at a press briefing that the president was fine, the AP reported.

"I was just with him," Carney said.

The attack highlighted the volatility of markets, the vulnerability of news agencies, ...

Obama at Boston Bombings Memorial Service: ‘They Picked the Wrong City’ (Video)

President Barack Obama told the crowd gathered at a Boston memorial service on Monday that those responsible for Monday's bombings "picked the wrong city" to terrorize.

"If they sought to intimidate us, to terrorize us, to shake us from those values ... that define us as Americans, it should be pretty clear by now that they picked the wrong city to do it to," Obama said. "Not here in Boston."

The president made the comment during a 20-minute speech centering on the nation's support for the wounded city, as well as one of his favorite topics: Hope.

"We may be momentarily knocked off our feet, but we'll pick ourselves up. We'll keep going," Obama said to a thunder of applause. "We will finish the race."

Despite the attack that killed three people and injured over 170 others, the president promised another Boston Marathon and received a standing ovation from those gathered to honor the victims.

"The world will return to this great American city to run even harder and to cheer even louder for the 118th Boston Marathon," Obama said. "Bet on it."

Barack Obama Feels ‘Personally Responsible’ to Pass Stricter Gun Control After Newtown (Video)

President Barack Obama says he feels "personally responsible" for passing stricter gun control legislation on behalf of the families still grieving lost loved ones from the Newtown shootings.

"I feel personally responsible the same way I hope every parent out there feels responsible for all our kids," he told Savannah Guthrie in a "Today Show" interview that aired Wednesday morning.

The pre-recorded interview was taped on Monday, just hours before two explosions at the Boston Marathon killed three and injured over 170 others.

The seemingly senseless attack at the annual foot race -- where a group of eight runners participated to raise money for the Newtown Strong Fund, nonetheless -- has effectively plunged the country into yet another somber mood just months after the Newtown shootings did.

Gun-control legislation has since risen to the forefront in Washington, D.C., with a Senate vote on an amendment to expand background checks on gun purchases scheduled to start Wednesday afternoon.

The President did not say whetherhe was confident the bill would pass, but he did stress the importance of the issue.

"The key thing for me, is ...

Obama Calls Boston Bombings ‘Terrorism’ in Second Briefing (Video)

President Barack Obama addressed the Boston Marathon bombing again on Tuesday morning, calling it not only "a heinous and cowardly act" but an act of terrorism.

"Given what we now know about what took place, the FBI is investigating it as an act of terrorism," the president said. "Any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror. He avoided the word "terrorism" during his address to the nation on Monday.

But despite the new label, he said investigators still who was behind the two explosions that left three dead and over 140 injured. "What we don't yet know, however, is who carried out this attack or why," Obama said. "Whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization -- foreign or domestic --or was the act of a malevolent individual."

But what he does know, he said, is "that the American people refuse to be terrorized."

He also praised first responders, doctors and marathon runners for reacting to the tragedy with heroic "kindness, generosity and love."

Boston Bombings: Hollywood Sends Messages of Support to Victims

How the Hollywood Industry Could Be Impacted by Senate’s Gun Control Measure

The impact of media violence as a possible cause of mass violence incidents like Newtown is making an eleventh hour reappearance in Washington as the U.S. Senate readies to debate a gun control measure later this week.

In what could be bad news to the movie and media industry, on Wednesday Senators Pat Toomey, R-Penn., and Joe Manchin, D-W.V., included one extra element as they unveiled a bipartisan measure to extend background checks to guns bought at gun shows or over the Internet. Their plan calls for creating a National Commission on Mass Violence.

The commission would study possible causes of mass violence and look at all aspects of the problem, including guns, school safety, mental health, and violent media or video games.

The commission would be required to submit an interim report to Congress in three months and a complete report within six months,

It would consist of twelve experts, with six appointed by the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. and six appointed by the Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio.

"This commission is going to be ...

Tops on TheWrap This Week: Obama & Satan, Leno & Fallon, Yoko & Lennon’s Bloody Glasses

Satan sure looked a lot like Obama on History Channel's hit series "The Bible" as the week started in entertainment news.  The resemblance -- apparently not intentional -- caused a blizzard of media commentary on both sides of the political aisle.

Then Yoko Ono posted a bloody image to remind us that over a million lives in the United States have already ended due to gun violence.

Elsewhere, "Deep Throat" star Harry Reems died on Tuesday. And finally, the biggest story of the week: Is NBC really replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show?"
